What is it?
The Ghost Ship is a 3D water-based, hologram of a sailing ship. It has all the buzz of a high-tech water show while displaying the permanence and serenity of a sculpture. Seen only at night, the contours of the projection simmer and flow in the wind, creating the illusion of a Ghost Ship.
It was created in 2014 by Mihai Baba and made its public debut during that year's Amsterdam Light Festival, to international acclaim.
Since then, custom versions of the Ghost Ship have been commissioned across the world for both public and private events.

What makes the Ghost Ship instantly appealing is the strong connection between the subject and the medium. As a vessel made out of light that floats above the surface of the water, it is instantly recognisable as a ghost ship.
Viewership
In total, we estimate that the Ghost Ship has been seen live by 1 million people (based on the organisers’ data). Press coverage has also been significant, with pick-ups from Designboom, This Is Colossal, Gizmodo, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! and Discovery Channel.
Sustainability
The installation does not waste any clean water, as it simply recirculates the water from the river, lake or sea it is placed on. Moreover, it is built completely disassembled after each display, leaving no waste behind.

Q: Do you also cover the production of the Ghost Ship?
A: Yes, always.
Q: What local resources are usually required?
A: A solid power connection (landline or generator), a forklift, housing for the lights and a working boat are the most common staples.
Q: How long does it take to prepare the Ghost Ship for an event?
A: Optimally, a few months – this gives us sufficient time to edit and cross-check the planning. The very minimum is a few weeks, provided sufficient resources are available.
Q: How long does a display last?
A: The Ghost Ship can be displayed continuously from sunset until after midnight, for anywhere from several days to several weeks.
Q: Who handles the permits?
A: Usually, the client. Or a local representative of the client. We supply the site plans and technical details, of course.
Q: Can the Ghost Ship show custom content?
